To be autonomous and reach independent and impartial decisions, the new Portland police accountability board needs to hire its own staff. Pre-determining the make-up of this body - which has been in the planning process for 5 years - usurps that independence.

JUST IN: 9th Circuit temporarily reinstates Judge Immergut's 1st TRO blocking solely Trump's Oregon National Guard deployment. Both TROs now in effect (CA/TX too). 9th to decide on en banc by Tuesday. Move undercuts DOJ's bid to lift 2nd TRO but court says no msg on merits.

Stunning documentary THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR, just released by Geeta Gandbhir, is the end-all argument for mobile crisis services with mediation with follow-up built-in to the design. Police did nothing wrong, but they did not have the right tools.

Trump’s Portland narrative didn’t appear suddenly; it’s more a denouement after powerful interests catastrophized challenges for political gain.Years of oiling the growth machine, even in a city with a progressive reputation, have failed to produce material results for voters.
