An actual, random human. Aspiring failed translator. Interested in 日本語, Deutsch, Français, Español, also literature, comics, animation, SF, others.
Syndrome is actually the exception to this attitude, although his intelligence arguably makes him as much as a Super as anyone else.

The opening scenes depict how the gifted Supers are held back by jealous, mediocre normies. At one point, Mr. Incredible complains about his son's graduation ceremony: "They keep creating new ways to celebrate mediocrity, but if someone is genuinely exceptional..."

If it were Sam Altman, we would be looking at its ass.

The UK site has 385 for 100g, but one portion (presumably 1 doughnut) is 204 calories.

"...there are some disturbing elements that are a departure from the first two books." is disturbing in its own right.

Our two solitudes might add some complexity to this exercise, as there are likely albums that are well known to Quebeckers but didn't get any traction outside the region, and vice-versa. I don't know if the Hip are big outside of Montreal.

Maybe Douthat should do something about the tyrannical, lawless king in his own country before worrying about other monarchies.

I strongly suspect that Trump is only concerned with Christians in Nigeria because in his fog of dementia, he thinks that the Nigerian Christians are white. He is conflating Nigeria and South Africa.

When the AI bubble bursts, and it will, environmental regulations could do the same.

This reminds me of the banking regulations that prevented Canada from suffering the worst of the 2008 recession. There was pressure to remove them so that Canada could feed at the American trough. Once the bubble burst, they pretended they'd done it intentionally.

Miller won't be going to prison. When the MAGA regime is overthrown, he will follow the path of his inspiration and doppelgänger Goebbels.

The USA has two major political parties: a fascist party trying to restore a mythical 1950s, and a conservative party trying to restore a mythical 1990s. Neither is of any use to Americans or anyone else.

A distinction without a difference, at this point.

Oh? And what did they build it ON, exactly?

Pity it cost Ontario more like $75 million, not $75000.

If games qualify, Wadjet Eye's Blackwell series would work. The involuntarily-bound support person is indeed sarcastic, and occasionally assholish, but is also non-romantic and empathetic.

Isaac Asimov's "The Gods Themselves" describes a process where materials are exchanged between parallel universes to produce what seems to be unlimited quantities of energy. Although in this case, the transaction is voluntary. To a point.

"Les machines savent produire des traductions de mauvaises qualités, mais pas au point d’être inutiles. Et l’offre de cette version médiocre est si importante qu’elle fait baisser les prix et les salaires"

I know what you mean. I can read sixty pages an hour in English, or one page per day in Japanese (with luck and dictionary lookups). I could at least manage 10 pages an hour in one of my other reading languages, but for some reason, I have to hoe the Japanese row...

We will find out in ten years when the book is finally published and there is no danger of it having any effect on anything whatsoever.
