Also, I think it's really dubious to claim that ULM and ULL have surpassed Tech in any sport since that time. Sorta neglects all the bowl games Tech played in and won as recently ar 2019.

This is a revisionist take. The reality is in 2001 the WAC was a far stronger athletic conference than the still unformed Sun Belt football conference. Moving to the WAC was absolutely the right move then.
