There’s something very American about It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). I think it has to do with how George Bailey’s morality, expectations of the world, and estimation of self-worth are all tied together.

His outlook before jumping off the bridge feels akin to the neoliberal American, end of 2024.

3 industry fixes for commercial film production
1. A mechanism to stop offshoring
2. Unionization of Agency Creatives
3. Greater bid transparency.

Could the next Production Model used by Brands be a combination of the Content Creation we see on social, combined with the Sponsorship Model of yesteryear?

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫?
🤔🤔 Food for thought

This 2023 Brand Authenticity Report is done by a firm called Breakthrough Research (red flag?)

Also a redflag, the link to their study, links to a pitch deck instead. Nonetheless these tactics are getting play with major brands.

Marty did a 90 sec spot with Chanel + Timothée Chalamet', and it's a #radiation of brilliance.

Despite it's complexity, at no point does it feel inaccessible. Such a supertightly- packed package of novel stimuli. It might be my new favorite commercial.

Top #cameras from #Cannes features this year. Always love a good #infographic, put together by YM Cinema

But i’m honestly not too sure what response I should have to this, besides “oh okay, cool”

Why are Ad Agencies systematically negotiating bad deals for themselves?
And by extension every film vendor they hire?

Structural Issues -> Operational Issues + Disruption = shit-job market

There have been a lot of recent changes, in the creative + commercial economy, and little discussion about what they mean.

This is Part I of a three-part series I wrote to detail that shift.

Following a creationist train of thought, I wrote a bit of quasi-fiction about: Holding Companies, Ad Agencies, Brands and how they came to be. 💁‍♂️

I didn’t think I would like Air. But I enjoyed it willingness to go the understated + occasionally-odd route.

I do think there was a disconnect in how marketing presented the movie. Would be really curious to see a mockup campaign that emphasized its low-key nature instead.

Yorgos Lanthimos reaches peak-weird-brilliance in Poor Things. What a lovely fucking tale.

Many brilliant things, but the use of dramatic in-camera zooms timed to faux-electronic, was one of my favorites.
