Journalism used to be tied to civic identity in that way. Not anymore.
It needs to adapt and find a way to reconnect with the disengaged, because 1) the the high-info/low-info gap will grow and 2) other actors who blur the line btwn info and entertainment will continue to swoop in and fill the void
