Imagining the host would be a stone cold robot of a man who calmly asks the guests questions about their upcoming film as they sob through their answers.

Which on a dreidel would be end-over-end, about the axis passing through the edges (rather than the faces)? Not sure.
December 27, 2024 at 5:58 AM
Hah, same! I forgot why this happens, so I looked it up again and I think the dreidel doesn't flip because it's being spun about its first principal axis, which is stable. It's rotation about the second principal axis that exhibits the flip.

To the immense detriment of my physical and mental health, I held it.

I did encounter some annual diaper enjoyers, though.

I do this with screws, nuts, bolts... In the era of hand forged nails, it was inconceivable that these could be so precise, exist in such great number, and manufactured en masse for countless applications. Now I find them in the couch and just throw them away, but not before marveling a little.

Oh that's absolutely a thing in the mid-west US, at least.

$10k is pretty dope considering the response for disclosures is too often, "hi, thanks for the report, we'd like for you to go to jail now."

Great point. In a contrived, fictional setting, it's easy for a writer to just make things fall into place for a jerk-but-right character to give the audience a satisfying resolution. But if you're not also winning hearts & minds IRL, you're just leaning on luck that it'll work out in your favor.

I worked around a guy who would do this. He honestly had great ideas. But nothing he proposed ever got done because when it came time to hash out details of system design, he was a cunt to anybody who wasn't 1000% on board with his idea.

Humans are the Great Filter of good ideas.

This is the recipe: www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/cinn...

I used butter in the filling instead of egg to make it closer to a cinnamon roll thing. Came out *really* tender, bordering on underdone? Probably could have used extra time in the oven because of the added moisture in the butter.

I think they're basically all bad math. If you need that in an LLM your best bet is probably one that can call a tool for it. Like a Wolfram Alpha integration, etc.

I can certainly see why commit message content isn't considered valuable if you don't read them! But to be fair, you're right that it can vary by team and workflow. It's a bit of chicken/egg thing because if you don't read them, others won't write them, which means you won't read them...
December 18, 2024 at 7:38 PM
If you need to write up a high level description or justification for a change, then I agree a PR description is a good place for that. If the change involves multiple commits, the commit messages are like inline comments on each diff. Both are helpful in different ways to a reviewer!
December 18, 2024 at 5:19 PM
Commit messages are comments on the diff, for the benefit of reviewers. Code comments are comments on the code after the diff is applied, for the benefit of developers.

The difference is subtle but important, and there's a place for thoughtful verbosity in both.

Anyway, I'm a hair's breadth away from founding a defense startup with a misguided LotR name, so wish me luck.
