I recently described myself as a "renaissance nerd" and that feels accurate. Actor, writer, software dev, most things nerdy, most things sporty. He/him
Six months ago, I would not have believed this to be real. Our speed-run into dystopia is impressive. I fully expect a pitch for a reality TV show based on THE LONG WALK any day now
Kristi Noem has been working with the producer of “Duck Dynasty” to pitch a reality TV show—titled “The American”—where immigrants will compete in a string of challenges across the country “for the honor of fast-tracking their way to U.S. citizenship,” according to a new report.
Noem Plots Reality Show Where Migrants Fight for Citizenship
A Homeland Security official told the Daily Beast that the show is in the early stages of vetting, though approval has not been given—or denied.

I don't know if anyone's noticed, but things like, REALLY suck.

I know it'll never happen in my lifetime, but once, JUST ONCE, I would love to see a sideline reporter at a major sporting event push back on the "first of all, all glory to G-d" type answer from athletes. I'm sick of all the fucking free proselytizing

I remain convinced that adulthood is merely high school/teenhood with a thin veneer of "maturity" that gets shed with shocking ease
Billionaire board members feeling peer pressure to take drugs with Elon because if they don't they think Musk will be angry and cut them out of his companies and life. The world is so stupid.

Am absolutely hating this new reality of the modern Democratic Party being too lazy or timid or addicted to the thin shreds of power they still have (or all 3, why not?) to actually DO THEIR MOTHERFUCKING JOBS. Instead they're all tweeting about how Somebody Should Do Something (tm)

An interesting take on the whole TikTok thing (and the deleterious effect of social media in general). The "TL;DR" version: when people don't know how things work, everything starts to look like conspiracy. So share your expertise!

Ticking Toks and Expertise
Knowing the kinds of readers we have here, I strongly suspect that if you drew a Venn diagram of "TDWTF Readers" and "TikTok Users" those circles wouldn't overlap at all. But TikTok is in the news, an...

Sweet tapdancing Christ, fuck Neil Gaiman. That non-apology shows that the ONLY thing he's sorry about is that he got caught and called out on his predation.
January 15, 2025 at 9:04 PM
I've been sitting with the Gaiman news all day (read the Vulture article this AM) and... God, that man is fucked up. Weaponizing the language and stance of feminism and safety to perpetrate sexual violence on some very vulnerable people is either sociopathic, cynical or a sign of deep self-loathing

Time to bust out that headline from The Onion again. FFS

More than a little distressing to discover - or maybe finally confirm - that my country hates women more than it hates black people. And it REALLY hates black people.
November 6, 2024 at 2:08 PM
It is an unsettling thing, bordering on disturbing, to realize - at the grand ol age of 48 - that while you're the protagonist in your life story, you are not always the *hero*. Sometimes you're even the antagonist *at the exact same time*.

So that's ... awful

I want to go back in time, find the person who first decided it was acceptable not to use headphones while loudly listening to their phone in a public space, and then beat them to death with a baseball bat.

Stop buying this fucking newspaper.
Cool cool NYT just out here saying that a family that moved to a red state because people in Portland are homeless and do drugs is somehow equivalent to a family that moved to a blue state because IOWA OUTLAWED THEIR CHILD www.nytimes.com/2023/10/07/u...
Two Families Got Fed Up With Their States’ Politics. So They Moved Out.
The Nobles of Iowa moved to blue Minnesota. The Huckinses of Oregon moved to red Missouri. Their separate journeys, five weeks apart, illustrate the fracturing of America.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, he really named a kid for the Warhammer 40k bad guys. Butthurt evil AND a giant dork. He's going to start issuing video communiques while idly stroking a white cat next, isn't he?

This is the best, most succinct explanation of the difference between geek, nerd and dork that I have ever seen with my own two eyes. Beautiful work, no notes.
A geek loves a thing primarily emotionally
A nerd loves a thing primarily intellectually
A dork is just a big damn mess when it comes to humans

These categories have HUGE FUCKING OVERLAPS

I saw an adult dressed up in a full SpongeBob costume run up and down my quiet suburban street. I forget, is that the third or the Fourth horseman?
