Didn't get around to posting more about the TF2 map - finished blocking out, and it changed A LOT.

Reworked it to have loads more space and height variation, and give more options for attackers without giving defenders quite routes to spawn.

Needed to reduce sightlines further, and I wanted a break room for workers somewhere... So behold: Portacabin!

In the first playtest people really didn't like the open approach, especially with the dropdown for the enemy team 😅

So, for version 2 I've added more cover, switched which side of the buildings players enter and drop down from, and added a ground floor to the middle buildings!

Had an itch to do some level design and wanted something I could actually play and iterate on, but I don't have many games with map editors... So I downloaded an 18 year old one 😅

Now working on a construction site themed Team Fortress 2 map!

For the second level there's lots of buildings!

Feedback was positive for this one, so I decided to lean more into it by having a section set inside a castle at the end.

Also mixed in some stone buildings the tank can't go through to give some permanent obstacles and line of sight blocking.

A peak at some Level Design! I found players avoided hitting destructible terrain and didn't use a lot of the space so I added a tutorial section and am now trying to strike a balance between destructible & non-destrucible while reducing the scale and making more obvious paths for the player to use.

Over the last month I've put most of my efforts into finishing the mechanics. Every part has three upgrades, plus there's randomisation and resources so you have to be selective as you scavenge new stuff throughout a run.

Now turning my attention to my favourite bit, level design! 🗺️

Made a lot of progress but the big thing is customization is in place! You can pick one part from each of the five categories, giving a new ability or passive effect. Plan is to have 3 of each type, with 3 upgrades each, so you can make a tank with all sorts of combos. 🔧

By the start of this week I'd made a few subtle changes - rewrote the player movement to turn towards the input direction, and implemented NavMeshPlus to get some pathfinding.

Currently working on a customisation system so that the player can add different parts to the tank!

2 weeks into my current project at uni, where we were given a basic 2D shooter template to start with, and I've decided to turn it into a tank game with destructible environment and customizable parts.

Here's what I had after 1 week...

From initial diagram to final version, this was the second level in our recent collaborative project at university.

I loved seeing a space that I blocked out get some lovely art created for it in a way I can't manage on my own!

Check out my portfolio for more on Baking Bedlam! 🍪

So far the project I'm most proud of is a game I made in my first year's second semester - a nature-themed movement shooter focused on 'Creation' and 'Activation' mechanics that let the player alter the environment in their favour.

It was a fun challenge getting these mechanics working! #gamedesign

Here's a short clip of how it plays - did a little bit a blueprinting to make a working character with animations, health, stamina, blocking, attacking and an interact key.

Been looking back over some projects I did in the first year of uni while I work on making a portfolio, quite proud of how they turned out!

In my first semester I made a level set inside a castle, with blue crystals erupting from the ground to give an air of fantasy... But what's their source? 👀
