To all those celebrating at World Pride this weekend and throughout June, remember — we are all in this together. Happy Pride!

Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in our nation. Elected officials must be safe to do their job on behalf of the people. The hate and division that dominate our political discourse must end.

Melissa Hortman was an outstanding public servant. She passed legislation that enshrined freedoms and increased opportunity for the people of Minnesota. I saw her impact firsthand when I was with her in Minnesota and will remember her compassion, humor, and sense of service.

As a U.S. Senator, I was proud to co-sponsor a bill to make this day a federal holiday. As Vice President, it was my honor to stand beside President Biden as he signed that bill into law. Today and every day, let us celebrate the heroes of this movement and the work that lies ahead.

Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.
