The need to be “a good person” is a powerful and deep drive. As with hunger/thirst/sex, if we aren’t able to satisfy it in a normal way, we satisfy it anyway we can: eat trash, drink piss, fuck a mannequin in the woods. True moral action (demonstrable material benefit to others) is difficult, but
