Through them I discovered a love of tabletop games, but the reason their channel is one I will never stop watching (even if that love fades) is that it is ever a delight to follow these wonderful weirdos down the rabbit hole of why they think a particular game is a curio worth digging into. (12/12)

The truth of the matter is that I started watching SUSD, not because I had an interest in board games at that point, but because the then team were (and present team are) immensely entertaining. (11/12)

And what makes the SUSD gang so wonderful to watch is that even with their different styles of videos they all manage to embody these disparate aspects brilliantly in their own eclectic ways.

Maybe, in a way, they are boardgames. 🤔 (10/12)

Boardgames are so often both weird representations of the real world and amusing in the stories they tell (intentionally or not). At their best they communicate profound ideas in unexpected ways. And if not that, then they are at least designed to be fun experiences to be shared with friends. (9/12)

What unites them all, and makes Matt's latest video a good example of why SUSD is worth our time, is that this daftness is utilised to explain the strange world of boardgames in a way that is true to the nature of the games themselves. (8/12)

Tom brings the energy of a charismatic reporter perpetually in the process of doing battle with his own self-consciousness and the serious or strange topics suggested by a medium as playful as boardgames & conveyed by an institution as silly as SUSD. Case in point: youtu.be/ykrqCX2_mhU?...

Emily's wonderfully esoteric punchy machine gun rounds of interwoven self/audience/Tom-depreciatory jokes and thoughts are pure maniacal genius. See: youtu.be/Db4fPno2Qr0?...

Wonderfully, this level of craft isn't limited to Matt, but can be said of the whole SUSD team. Not that they all produce videos in the same style. Not by a longshot. (5/12)

And what blows my mind is that after literally a decade of watching his videos, he is still able to surprise me with moments like a completely unexpected and perfect Mark Heap's Jim impression that serves as a brilliant punchline. (4/12)

The skits deftly explain not only rules, but also Matt's thesis on why this game is worth your time, while his more "usual" talky-bits grab each opportunity for a joke until they doesn't, Matt leaving you just enough breathing room to take in his point before the next left of field turn. (3/12)

Matt, seemingly effortlessly, rolls from skit, to review, to skit-review, all the while peppering jokes throughout and keeping the video pacy despite it being almost 20 minutes long.

And what's incredible is that not a second is wasted.
