More autumnal loveliness, albeit from a different corner of the city...

The trees shine in dark gold and copper in the light. More gold and bronze trees lit up against grey skies. A dark red skeleton of tree can be seen on the left. Was so tired last night I forgot to share lovely autumn photos from walk in local ancient woodland...
Nature's stained glass window... A pale blue sky ombres down to pale gold and yellow behind the silhouettes of winter-bare trees. The path below is covered in orange and gold leaves, and a few bushes still cling on to their green and gold leaves. Bracket fungus (possibly Ganoderma applanatum) growing on the bark of a tree stump. Topside of the fungus is chocolate brown and looks like it's dusted with cocoa powder, the underside is smooth and creamy white in colour. Purple-blue sloe berries on a small sloe tree. Behind the foliage is coppery on an oak tree, then yellow on a small tree and then vibrant green brambles. More bracket fungi (possibly trametes versicolor). Many frilly shelves of fungi are protuding from a very old, barkless stump. Dark grey with a much lighter edge.

Son called him Nuzzle as a kitten (I think Nuzzle and Scratch were a big thing on CBeebies back then) and it got tweaked over the years... He was the king of weird sleeping positions.

Not like declaring a republic tomorrow, but deciding on a date in the future that ends the British Monarchy. And there's a perfect date for it coming up! October 14th, 2066. A thousand years since the Battle of Hastings. A thousand years of this one specific bloodline ruling England. Call time on the Monarchy after exactly one thousand years. Nice, and neat. Even better: Charles isn't living 44 years. He'll be gone in about twenty. Now William? He's what, 40? Yeah, he can live another 44 years. His great grandmother was over a hundred, his granny was 96, William can make it to 84 barring accident or assassination. So on October 14th 2066, William the Last steps down a thousand years after William the First won the crown. Nice, neat, and fair. William gets the crown he's been waiting forty years for already, but ten-year-old George grows up without expectation of it. 1. Met a dachshund on my daily walk who licked my hand.
2. Met Crumpet the whippet for a third time and got to scritch her velvety head again.
3. Found an easyish parking space at the GP, got our favourite HCA, and he only had to make 1 hole in my son to get blood out.

Sky is definitely trying too hard this evening.

In December 1961, the British fascist, Oswald Mosley, sent Bertrand Russell two of his books. Mosley wrote of the two root differences between us 'in international politics, and subsequently invited Russell to lunch. On 22 January 1962, Russell declined the invitation in these terms. Dear Sir Oswald, Thank you for your letter and for your enclosures. I have given some thought to our recent correspondence. It is always difficult to decide on how to respond to people whose ethos is so alien and, in fact, repellent to one's own. It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism. I feel obliged to say that the emotional universes we inhabit are so distinet, and in deepest ways opposed, that nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us. I should like you to understand the intensity of this conviction on my part.
