Today marks my last day as President of the CMA. As I wrap up my term with @cmadocs.bsky.social, I want to thank you all - patients and physicians - for allowing me to advocate on your behalf.

I just sent a letter to all party leaders, and made one message very clear: There is no version of Canada’s future without a functioning health care system.

Income is the #1 determinant of health. Now, as our income as a country is being threatened, so too is our health. Health care needs to be at the forefront of this federal election, across party lines.

Funding for preventative care can ease the strain on our system, supporting good health now, and into the future.

Thank you, Empire Club of Canada, for hosting this event, “Moving Primary Care Beyond Crisis”. It couldn’t have come at a more crucial time.

Canada needs to prioritize filling in the gaps in our health system. Physicians should be able to move from province to province - without applying for a new, costly license.

If you had a chance to talk to a politician, what would you tell them?

As I reflect on the past year of my work with @CMA_docs, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to advocate for every Canadian within our health system.
