Got my copy of 'Wasser als Ressource' - well worth a read for lots of interesting environmental history (in German) centered around water & Tyrol!

My chapter about the Alps, environmental adaptation & the rural population is OA: works.hcommons.org/records/yypn...

Got stuck writing a chapter and instead rearranged my office space at home (+tidied up a bit in general) - not for the first time.

Does anyone else have a go-to activity to try and pry loose stuck mental gears?
Or a better kind of justification for procrastination I guess!

Some passages from the article - according to the study changes in land use is (up until now) the main cause for this kind of biodiversity loss rather than global warming.

It also shows, once again, how important environmental history is! Study wouldn't have been possible without historical data

Merci merci!

The whole thing was supervised by 7 men, who then swore, that the victims clothes hadn't changed at all or shown any signs during this process ("das sich die gwand nutz geendertt hab") - and because of that the suspect was acquitted!

I *think* that I've seen it...but I was so little, that I don't remember it.
But there are fortunately also other nice astronomical clocks that I can personally recommend, like the one in Strasbourg or the one near me in Bern ;-)

aaaaaand it is down again! Now the error message explicitly says that the reason is a DDoS, which would be quite...something.

Anyway, the Knowledge Commons Works-part is still functioning fine! Which I know because I spent far too long uploading and trying out stuff, like the fancy embed function:

Oxford is currently teaching a masterclass in how to demolish an institutions reputation in two easy steps:
1. Proudly proclaim to push GenAI
2. Reap the rewards by getting savagely ratioed
September 20, 2025 at 11:22 AM
Yeah, it's something to look forward to!

Though I guess they have shown that they're at least still a center of excellence when it comes to getting engagement - maybe not the kind that they wanted, but at least it's something?
September 19, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Think betting on GenAI is a brilliant PR move?
Take a gander at the lovely ratio on that post and think again

Delightful that they're getting roasted like this for supporting the assault on actual science & expertise by pushing GenAI-slop
