NYC City Council leadership on ballot proposals 2-4: The letter states: “When the City Board of Elections makes its upcoming Election Law Section 4-114 determination of the November 2025 ballot, it must reject these three ballot questions based on the law. In particular, the three questions fail to inform voters that the ballot proposals will completely eliminate the City Council’s existing authority on behalf of the public to approve or modify a wide range of land use proposals.” “Questions 2, 3, and 4 must be rejected for placement on the November ballot because their primary impact is being hidden from voters, undermining the franchise,” the letter continues. ... The letter indicates: “New York Courts have upheld Board of Election Commissioners’ ability to exercise that power where proposed ballot questions are unclear about a crucial aspect of a proposed ballot initiative. Lenihan v. Blackwell, 209 A.D.2d 1048, 1049 (4th Dep’t 1994).” For 35 years, New Yorkers have relied on the City Council’s role as the only democratically elected body with the power to vote on local land use decisions. This authority ensures that communities have a voice in shaping development in their neighborhoods, and it has been leveraged to win deeper affordability in new housing and secure investments that strengthen neighborhoods across the city, including for schools, childcare centers, parks, open space, public transit, and core infrastructure needs. These potential ballot proposals would remove the democratically elected Council from the process and undermine its work on behalf of the public to secure critical benefits from the City and developers for neighborhoods as part of approved development. The attempted refusal to inform New York City voters about the choice before them is an intentional deception and shameful disregard of democracy by Mayor Adams and his Commission, which must be rejected.

To be clear I don't speak for her or presume to know all her views on anything, just what I see as a misrepresentation by you here. Other than that, the report noted the way that housing was being built in the city was favoring the rich. That's the big problem. A legitimate reality to call out.
From the article in the SF Standard: The new data comes on the heels of a more comprehensive 2019 report (opens in new tab) from the city which found that job growth was vastly outpacing housing development. It found that over the prior decade, the city built nearly 25,000 units of new housing, most of which was suitable for high-income renters: By 2018, the city had met 96% of its 2022 RHNA (Regional Housing Needs Assessment) goal for new high-income housing but just 39% of its low-income housing goal and 15% of its moderate-income housing goal.

You're misrepresenting her views on housing and intentionally misinterpreting even this one post you post here. She's not a nimby or a left nimby. She wants truly affordable housing and opposes developers who gentrify neighborhoods thereby driving up rents for those who get priced out.

Isn't this what ACA pretty much does already? It's not perfect, but Trump acting like he's going after private insurance companies by shrieking that people be sent money to spend on private insurance companies is dumb. He, Republicans, and sadly, most Dems, have been team privatization forever.

O’Brien is speaking there with the goal of winning an endorsement from TDU for a second term in office. In order to smooth the path for an endorsement, TDU has banned from membership and/or from the convention dissidents who are well-known critics of O’Brien, including John Palmer, the only public and consistent critic of O’Brien on the Teamsters’ executive board. At least a half dozen members of Teamsters Mobilize, a radical network of mostly UPS part-timers, have also been banned. Sean O’Brien, who many people critical of him refer to as “SOB,” has proven himself not only to be a menace to Teamsters Union members, but to the rest of us. Recently, in another long growing list of villainous actions, SOB appeared at a White House press conference along with V.P. JD Vance and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy calling on the Democrats to drop their opposition to further Republican cuts in healthcare and social programs. This is not the first time O’Brien has done President Donald Trump’s dirty work. I’ve written extensively on these issues, see links in comments. Not only has SOB allied himself with the Far Right of U.S. politics but of the Zionist Far right. Batya Ungar-Sargon, a NewsNation host, is a support of Israeli genocide in Gaza was one of the special guest speakers at the recent Teamsters Women’s conference in Toronto. Teamsters Mobilize and the Concerned Teamsters of Chicago are asking those friends and comrades in the Chicago area to join our “Stand Together Against Fascism.
