It’s a challenge to avoid letting an identity or label (even a “positive” one) become restrictive. Huge issue in parenting. And US culture is heavily prejudiced against introverts.

Solid, insightful thread. I’d add that greeting rituals are even more elaborate and important in other cultures. In France if you enter a shop you’re expected to start your transaction with “Bonjour Madame/Monsieur/Mademoiselle” and wait for their reply.
