one of our nine black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars made it to butterfly! the other eight got eaten before the chrysalis stage (we think), or they wandered off because they ate through the parsley (and then got eaten themselves) #chicago #garden #nature

i just love the vibes at this station. it has some of the updated elements from the 90’s Red Line renovations, but unlike the Lake and Jackson stations, Monroe kept the unadorned 1940’s platform and ceiling. it feels much more utilitarian. (i do also like the 90’s renos btw)

i think this is a sugar maple? i’m guessing it was planted here when Montrose Harbor was created, which would put it at roughly 100 years old

the Burnham Center yesterday

It is tucked under the full cuboid mass of the building, leaving a roughly ten-foot overhang. The white ceiling of the overhang continues smoothly into the lobby as do the plaza’s granite slabs. Together, the glass, granite, and ceiling make the lobby feel contiguous with the exterior, thereby trying the building to its plaza.
