Member of Parliament for Calder Valley, Health and Social Care Select Committee Member, mediocre fell runner - never knowingly on message.
One of my proudest days as an MP. Today we have ended the presumption of contact which forced children to have contact with abusers - children’s safety must come first

We won’t reach net zero without doing more to use less energy. And that includes insulating our homes. Yesterday a national audit office report showed that 98% of homes insulated under the last government were faulty. I asked the minister if this government will do better!

One area that I have been working on since my election is campaigning to end the presumption of contact in family courts which gives abusers access to their children. Too frequently the voices of abusers are heard over the voices of children. I pushed the minister further on this today.

I have already made clear my concerns about the impact of the proposed benefit changes announced in the spring statement.

Today in treasury questions I asked specifically about the estimated increase in child poverty the changes will cause and how the government will tackle that.

This morning in foreign office questions I raised the impact of the Trump administrations reckless cuts to USAID on the global fight against HIV and AIDS.

Today in parliament I put on record some of my concerns about proposed changes to disability benefits. I understand and hear the very real fears and concerns of constituents about the impact of getting this wrong and will work to ensure vulnerable constituents get the support they deserve.

On Monday I took part in an adjournment debate on Domestic Abuse. I asked victims minister Alex Davis-Jones for assurances that the government will act on the current presumption of contact rules that exist even in the case of abusers.

Today the PM made a statement on Ukraine & diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. I have seldom seen the commons so full.

I asked the Prime Minister to confirm that there can be no negotiations without Ukraine’s democratic leaders and that both Russia and Ukraine must adhere to any ceasefire.

A few weeks ago @katedeardenmp.bsky.social & I met with Halifax & District Rail Action Group to talk about the case for electrifying the Calder Valley line between Leeds and Manchester. This week I raised it in the House of Commons. The north has missed out on transport funding for too long.
