The only problem with standing desks is their ability to induce a fugue state. One minute I'm working along to a playlist, the next I'm playing keyboard in an 80's pop video.

Disclaimer: Don't come for me DOGE, it was for less time than you suspended Ebola funding.

Has DOGE audited Tesla and SpaceX yet? How many tax payer dollars were saved by cuts to those two companies?

I'd like to buy that district judge in Massachusetts a beer. Keep fighting.

Though I'm elated for her, this was also tough news to take. Mary Wise has taught me just as much as any academic mentor I've had, has impacted COUNTLESS people over her long career, and is the truest of friends. Cheers to you, Mary!

Today I made the mistake of engaging with some angry poster who thought anonymity shielded him from accountability. Learned that if there's no rational conversation to be had, it's better just to ignore/block them.

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.

The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.

Happy Black History Month.

I don't know this guy, but this post struck a chord with me.
Fellow American friends, I know things are bad, and they’re gonna stay bad a while. But I can’t leave y’all wallowing in doom and paranoia. So let me tell you a few things.

Your ancestors survived worse. I’m sorry it’s your turn now, but you have it in you. Surviving is a noble fight.

@realbillmaher.bsky.social Bill, did I just hear you say "chasm" with the "ch" sound like "Chad" in your Peggy Noonan video? lol Gotta slow on the edibles before going on-air. Hey, say "chaos" for me right quick. 🤣🤣🤣

You're seen.

You're respected.

You're appreciated.

I'M eager to listen, and learn, and follow your lead as we reflect on the profound impact your journey has had on our society.

😳 Acting on a mechanism entirely outside of the brain, it's no surprise that first applications targeted nociceptive and neuropathic pain...but this could be huge in preventing the transition to chronic nociplastic pain too!

I've had The Rains of Castamere in my head all morning...and now I'm nervous about today.

Really diggin' The Night Agent...but I have to keep reminding myself that's not JD Vance running around doing spy stuff.

I have one request for the @bsky.app front office: Aquire the rights to the ELO song so a snippet plays when I open the app (only when my phone is unmuted of course). It has nearly the same power of positivity as the theme from The Golden Girls.

Sorry, I checked out for the past week. Can somebody tell me if grocery prices are back down? How is Ukraine now that the war is over? So glad Project 2025 was just a false scare...right?

I planned to seek the comfort of a waffle this Saturday morning as the world burns, but I live in GA where there are no eggs...and no CDC either.

...unbelievable.

I'm going to up the ante: learn to identify tropes even in the posts you agree with. We all have blind spots, best to acknowledge that they exist!
Analyzing tropes and teaching the public to recognize to them is such an important project.
Tropes, such as "Hidden Motives", are recurring narrative elements used to evoke familiar patterns in communication

Our #COLING paper uncovers that tropes are used in 37% of the social posts debating immigration and vaccination

Why should the public care about the freeze on the NIH? Aside from the need for scientific pursuits to make our society better…
-For every dollar we invest in NIH research, there is a $2.5 return.
-Research dollars help fund universities that employ non-academics. (1/)

Trump promised to lower the price of eggs. In GA, the poultry industry is shut down because of bird flu. Trump pulled the emergency brake on HHS, so now the CDC can't update on the situation. Egg section at the store is completely empty. Does it count as a fulfilled campaign promise if eggs are $0?

Advocated for biomed research funding and got these replies (summarized):

Jon Osoff (D): This funding is worth fighting for and I pledge to do so.

Rick Allen (R): Unsolicited appropriations process lesson and how Biden is ruining the country. No mention of biomed research.

...clear winner there.
