Research published in the scientific journal "Biology Letters" has determined that Chicago's famous "rat hole" was *not* created by a rat, but was more likely the result of an Eastern gray squirrel getting trapped in the wet cement.
Chicago's "rat hole;" an indentation in a cement sidewalk in the shape of a small rodent. The hole is filled with water, and a coin sits next to it. Norm Macdonald, on his Weekend Update set, looks directly at a camera to his right with an accusatory expression and says "...or so the Germans would have us believe."

In this case, it's field sound of a quiet residential neighborhood, with birds chirping happily, a primary street two blocks behind us, and a major secondary street half a block to our right. SUPER: Leaving Fairbanks: Part One SUPER: Safety Net FADE IN: EXT. THE THOMASES’ HOUSE - DAY It's a sunny summer Sunday afternoon -- the sky is bluer than you remember -- by all appearances just a lazy day before the work week begins anew. We're in the Westgate neighborhood of Fairbanks, Alaska; a lower middle-class single-family residential area. We're looking at a wide shot of a quaint white ranch-style house with a nice little step-up porch, set back from the street several yards more than the houses to either side of it. Suddenly, the door opens, and a man THROWS a young teenage girl with short, jet black hair (LILLY) out of it by the waist of her white jeans shorts and the collar of her white faux fleece vest and pink T-shirt. She hits the cement walkway with a SMACK, and the door SLAMS violently behind her. She lays there on her hands and knees for a moment, crying, until she collects herself enough to stand up and retrieve a phone from her pocket as she starts walking down the driveway. INT. THE LEES' KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS An old, reliable corded phone hangs on the wall, and as it rings, a man walks over to answer it. He checks the number on the caller ID, but apparently doesn't recognize it. MR. LEE Hello? LILLY (PHONE) Hey, Mr. Lee; is Kendra there? He frowns with concern as he recognizes the troubled voice of his daughter's best friend. MR. LEE Just a moment. (to o.s.) Kendra? You have a phone call. INT. KENDRA’S BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS KENDRA, a girl about the same age as Lilly, lies on her bed with a book in her hands. She sets it down next to another corded handset on her nightstand, then picks up the phone. KENDRA Hey, L, what’s up? We hear a click as Mr. Lee hangs up the kitchen extension. LILLY (PHONE) You remember the outfit you gave me? The little white and pink number? KENDRA Of course, but are you from 1953? Who says “number” anymore? LILLY (PHONE) Me. KENDRA (smiling) So that’s a “yes.” Do you need me to remind you how cute you look in it? LILLY (PHONE) Not... really, but flattery will get you everywhere. The aurora could be playing a factor, too. I'm getting very little from Detroit, Chicago, or anywhere west to east. Usually an aurora will wipe out the clear channels entirely when its further south, but I'm right smack-dab between the impact zone and the visual horizon, so...
University of Alaska Fairbanks's Geophysical Institute aurora forecast map shows a strong band (Kp 6) right across the majority of Alaska into the majority of southern Canada and reaching into the far-northern Lower 48, including parts of northeastern Washington, the Idaho panhandle, roughly two-thirds of Montana, all of North Dakota and northern South Dakota, most of Minnesota, the northern halves of Wisonsin and Michigan (including the entire Upper Peninsula), the northern half of the Ontario peninsula, far northern New York State, far northern Vermont, far northern New Hampshire, most of the Maine wilderness, and just missing nearly all of Nova Scotia almost exactly along its boundary with New Brunswick. The visible horizon line extends quite a distance south of that, bisecting Oregon north from south, through southern Idaho, entering southwestern Wyoming into far northeastern Colorado, hitting the Nebraska / Colorado / Kansas border junction, down through far northern Kansas, northern Missouri, southern Illinois, loosely following the Ohio River through far southern Indiana into far northern Kentucky, bisecting West Virginia, entering northern Virginia into DC and through the northern Delmarva Peninsula.

Must be the right conditions for it, too, because WSB is pretty clear right now. Usually it isn't so strong thanks to WJR being 10kHz up the dial in Detroit, even with my antenna pointed north / south. But WJR is nowhere to be found right now.

It IS, in fact, snowing outside my window here in Hillsdale, and I can tell you right now that we didn't get any rain here in the city. Radar says there's some mixing in to the south and southwest around Reading, Frontier, Camden, and more toward Pioneer, Clear Lake and Edon.

Interesting. The forecast had always called for a mix of rain and snow before transitioning to snow across the whole region, but that usually means there's a line where two airmasses of different temperatures collide. THIS radar map shows rain at the core, but snow on the edges, especially north.
A band of rain cells arcs primarily from Gary, Indiana along the state line through South Bend and Elkhart, between Shipshewana and Ligonier, then turning southward into Auburn, Cedarville, and Woodburn, crossing into Ohio to Clancy, Rockford, and Grand Lake St. Marys, finally breaking up toward Urbana, with another, smaller cell west of there over Wayne Lakes, Covington, Arcanum and Philipsburg, northwest of Dayton. Another line of three or four yet smaller cells extends from around Morocco, Indiana east-northeast to Bass Lake, south and southeast of Gary. Surrounding most of the rain and in between the cells are radar indications of light snowfall, especially to the north and east of the system, all the way from Kenosha, Wisconsin across Lake Michigan into the Grand Rapids and Lansing / St. Johns area, central Lenawee County including Adrian, down through most of Fulton County, Ohio southward into Lima and even a little eastward toward Columbus.

In real life, Cisse Cameron and Reb Brown are married, and by all accounts, they're a very sweet couple. So the fact that Doctor Lady and Butch Deadlift have absolutely zero chemistry whatsoever in this movie is a true testament just how badly written it is 😄

Not to toot my own horn (though I would if I could), but I think my rebrand is pretty darn good.
A comparison of the original Saturn brand identity and my hypothetical rebrand. The original (left) uses two white curves crossing each other on a red square background with a white stroke. The black "SATURN" text below is done in a font similar to the NASA wordmark logo, with the U and R merging into one shape. This was always somewhat confusing to me, because while it's obvious from the name of the brand that it's supposed to represent Saturn and its disk of rings, the ring curve looks like it's passing *below* the planet curve in the lower-left corner. Plus, the perspective is just... wonky. The viewer is looking UPWARD and rightward at the planet, and the ring isn't as thick as it should be. It looks more like Jupiter if Jupiter's ring (yes, it DOES have one) could be easily seen. My rebrand is somewhat the same, with the same colors in the same layout. However, I used a semicircle to represent the planet and a more dramatic and thicker semicircular curve to represent the ring. And in mine, the perspective is DOWNWARD and rightward to the planet. The ring and planet are separated from each other by dead space, which is filled by the red background, and the back part of the ring curve passes *behind* the planet instead of underneath it. This silhouette is actually based on a real photograph of Saturn taken by the Cassini probe. The white stroke around the red box is also slightly thicker than the original. The "SATURN" wordmark below is in a much more modern futuristic typeface -- a customization of a monospace font -- that is thinner than the original and less blocky. Like the original, it's in black, with the crossbars removed from the A and the R, but the U and R are not connected this time. The letters are spaced further apart from each other to fill the width equal to the red background, just as the original had.

Were I to resurrect the brand...
On a red square with a white stroke, a tilted white silhouette of the planet Saturn with its ring pointing toward the lower-left corner, and the ring separated from the planet by dead space (filled in by the red background). The previous image, but with the name "SATURN" in all caps, rendered in a thin, black, futuristic typeface. The crossbar has been removed from the letters A and R. The same as the previous image, but with the slogan "DRIVE DIFFERENTLY (TM)" in a similar thin typeface below the "SATURN" name text.

Kari Matchett guest stars on "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" as Mary Tate, a sexual harassment lawyer on the defense for the fictional TV network NBS in a suit brought by a former Studio 60 staff writer who claims that she was fired for not participating in the "boys club" environment of the writers' room. Mary is exceptionally good at her job, reads people like an open book when they think they're being smart, and skips the chase to get to the conclusion before anyone even knew the chase was on. She also proves to be a great and caring friend, and has a crush on head writer Matt Albie (who was not working at the show when the alleged sexual harassment and discrimination took place; a potential conflict of interest she explained away quite easily). Unfortunately, Studio 60 was cancelled by NBC despite the technically-unofficial DVR ratings (called "Live+7") being high, only to have Nielsen MAKE the Live+7 ratings official the following season. So we never got to see Mary Tate beyond the handful of episodes she was in -- several of which she played a critical role in. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's the whole Sorkin trope of "the flirty genius." But she was very well-written, Matchett performed the role flawlessly, and I thought she'd make a great psychiatrist.
