Great reading about the TikTok ban paradox from @alexturvy.bsky.social & @rscarlets.bsky.social for @techpolicypress.bsky.social.

"..bans displace, rather than resolve, governance challenges, pushing users toward more opaque and potentially riskier ecosystems."

I've been thinking a lot about how relaxed M&A oversight will transform our digital infrastructure.

@sesmith.bsky.social's brilliant essay digs into web decay and LLM data sets, and questions how comfortable we are with the loss of a significant amount of culture.

This rule would represent the enshittification of baseball more than any of the recently implemented rule changes.

The influence of legacy outlets is still real but it's long past time to start referring to popular YouTubers, podcasters, and newsletter writers as mainstream.

One of the more disingenuous arguments about Bluesky vs. Threads is comparing total user growth.

Yes, Threads added as many new users in recent weeks as Bluesky has total users. But it's an argument rooted in yesterday's success metrics. Platform size doesn't mean a platform is better/more useful.

Spotify yesterday announced Spotify for Podcasters is set to become Spotify for Creators. To be eligible to join its Partner Program, creators will need to meet the following benchmarks...

Read today's Garbage Day by @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social for a great piece about why Bluesky is the new Twitter – and the importance of maintaining and evolving a text-based social media platform.

As @blunderchief.bsky.social writes for @theverge.com, Threads is still outpacing Bluesky.

But Bluesky feels more lively due to its algorithms and, I'd argue, benefits from being a totally novel digital space.

It bears repeating that supporting local, regional, and worker-owned journalism outlets is one of the most important things people can do right now.

Podcasting will continue to grow in influence as the medium reaches more people in the US and beyond.

For the first time ever, more than half (53%) of Americans reported listening to at least one podcast in the last 30 days, according to Sounds Profitable.

240 people are clicking the follow button on Bluesky every second. A 7x increase from earlier this week.

I’ve been fascinated and deeply appreciate Joshua’s analysis.

Is this the tipping point for Bluesky?
How lively is Bluesky right now? One measure is the number of people clicking the follow button per second, which has risen from ~40 earlier in the week to nearly 240 now. bskycharts.edavis.dev/bluesky-week...

► Podcasting
► Influence & Incentive structures

🤞 this platform contributes to a better tech ecosystem.
