It took my wife over 15 years of intense research and advocacy to find the specialists who could diagnose her EDS, heart and lung diseases and other issues that torment her daily. We can't move from this area now lest we start that process over. This system sucks.
Tumblr user miinobobeano: It bothers me so much that the healthcare system relies so much on the patient's ability to advocate for themselves, organize their history, and be so persistent against every medical “professional” who says there’s nothing wrong/they can do. But so many struggle with fatigue, brain fog, and face such ingrained systemic barriers, that the people who need and deserve help and support can’t access it. I saw something recently that resonated with me: “Access shouldn't depend on who has the energy to fight for it.” And I’ve never agreed with anything more.

Anyone who has ever experienced real bullying knows that bullied respond to one thing and one thing only; consequences. Tumblr user drtanner: It's also really fucking victim blamey and completely excuses the person telling you this lie from taking any action against your bullies on your behalf. My dream last night featured a pet octopus that escaped its tank and was hiding in puddles in the back yard. As I was frantically searching for it, a marching band came through the fence and I was even more panicked they would stomp on my octopus.

One of the most curious bifurcations in American society was in 2015 when a large portion of the population instantly clocked this guy for what he obviously is... and those who didn't. It's hard to explain that away with TDS, since many of us don't have those feelings about everyone in the other party, and this recognition didn't break evenly along party lines, (especially in the primaries of 2015 where a majority of Republicans called out the obvious.) I legitimately wonder if the inability to recognize the depth of his depravity was wishful thinking, accepting "the lesser of two evils" or something to do with personality profile and dispositions. It has always been so viscerally and bodily felt by me that I want to know what's missing in those who thought he was just a typical scummy politician. (Or even crude but heroic figure)

I welcome feedback from anyone who gave bad advice to, or made their lives harder. I wish everyone was that way.
Tumblr user the-lincyclopedia: This maybe sounds mean, but I think we should be able to send doctors “hey, you were wrong” letters. I was misdiagnosed with asthma when I was 12 and took asthma meds daily for seven years, and then it turned out I hadn’t had asthma in the first place; I actually have a different breathing problem. I don’t think the doctor who told me I had asthma (my pediatrician, who I was no longer seeing by that point) ever found out she’d been wrong. (This is one of at least four misdiagnoses in my life, from a variety of doctors, that I can think of off the top of my head.) Similarly, my first therapist told me she didn’t think I was autistic because I wasn’t obsessed with trains. I don’t think she ever found out that I am, in fact, autistic, because I wasn’t seeing her by the time I was diagnosed. I get that it might be demoralizing to have someone contact you specifically to tell you that you messed up, but I think it would be useful for doctors to have data on how often they misdiagnose patients, especially since some doctors tend to think the patient is generally wrong when attempting self-diagnosis. It would be useful for my former therapist to move me from the mental column of “people who erroneously think they’re autistic” to “people whose autism I did not notice when they were right in front of me.” It would be useful for my pediatrician to realize she needed to look more closely and listen to kids when their breathing symptoms weren’t the classic asthma ones. Doctors can get on their high horse and refuse to believe patients a lot of the time, and the power dynamic makes that dangerous in plenty of situations. I think it would be helpful to have a way to at least alert doctors when we have proof they messed up.
