‼️
I attended a meetup in Seattle and got to spend time with @bnewbold.net and @pfrazee.com from the Bluesky engineering team.

I walked away with an understanding of the role DIDs and PDSs play in the grand scheme of things, and why the most exciting work sits higher up the stack. I almost unretired.

Here’s @jay.bsky.team speaking about @bsky.app way back when we only had 2 million users. This is from my conference Open Core Summit. 🦋🥹

Jay on Bluesky: We've been scaling up. There's been about a million people joining a day for the past week

Sustaining (and its accelerating) the current growth rate of 4 new users per second, @bsky.app will cross 100 million users within 9 months. Wild.

I wrote about how we should look to open standards, and be weary of trusting companies that have closed systems:

Open standards, trust, and Google
We should build and use software that uses open standards, and be careful about the companies in which we place our trust.

✨ ✍️ New: We have a developer blog now!

In our first post, we share our current technical implementation of public blocks and some possibilities for more privacy preserving implementations — an area of active research and experimentation.

Now that we've crossed 100k users, we prefer new methods of feedback — tagging the team does not scale. Please use:
• In-app reporting feature. Our mods review every report we receive.
• In-app feedback form
• Developers can file an issue on GitHub
• Email support@bsky.app for support requests

BlueSky has broken the 100,000 user mark! Congrats to the team and to all the folks who have been here to help keep the conversation and cat pictures flowing!

Time for bed now but I'm glad there were some folks watching along with me.

Here’s Jack on how open source protocols are just as big a deal as AI. 👌🏼🔥

There’s no money in open source.

There’s only niche money in open source.

There’s definitely money in open source.

Most of the money is in open source.

The only money is in open source.

There is no money, there’s only open source.

Bluesky was a project kicked off by Jack when he was CEO of Twitter in 2019. Jack chose Jay to lead Bluesky, & Twitter paid Bluesky to build an open social protocol (not funding). Bluesky has been an independent company (PBLLC) since its formation in 2021. Bsky is owned by team; Jack is on the board

Ok. Gonna give this a try tomorrow. Going live at ~1pm pacific on YouTube to explore the AT protocol. Come join in and we can hang out and learn together.

I'll post the link when it happens. Still thinking if I want to announce it on the birb site or not. Not everyone is here yet.
I just gave a quick read of the ATP docs. They are pretty good and the design decision seem mostly sound. A few things I'd do differently but not major.

If I did a livestream playing around and with thoughts would anyone actually want to watch?

Why are we complaining so much about AI making things up?

All of our creations were made up… by us.

AI is an evolutionary progression of the human brain.
