'“If women are dying because of delays, and we have this huge new policy in Texas that affects their lives, why would we skip over those years?” one member of the Texas maternal mortality committee said, speaking on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution from government officials.'

Not going to lie, it's quite the experience to be using the bathroom in the Capitol and get a notification on my phone that people like me will be banned from using the bathroom in the Capitol.

The bigoted bullying of incoming Rep. Sarah McBride is truly despicable. This is not about “women’s rights” but rather about dehumanizing and trying to shut trans people out of public life. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/19/u...

G.O.P. lawmakers whose leaders have pressed to roll back transgender rights around the country moved to bar Sarah McBride, the first transgender member of Congress, from women’s rooms on Capitol Hill.

Yesterday an adult woman cursed at me then proceeded to glare at me for 2 minutes for “taking her seat” on the subway. Apparently she had been eyeing a seat but I sat down before her. New Yorkers manage to surprise me every day.

Conservatives identify Trump as more of a person of faith than Romney or Pence because for them religious observance is less important than sectarianism and Trump is clearly the most “Christian Nationalist” candidate www.deseret.com/2023/9/26/23...
Poll: Republicans see Trump as a ‘person of faith’ ... more so than Mitt Romney, Mike Pence and ...

I recently found myself wandering the streets of Brooklyn, clutching my tote bag. Inside was a bottle of oxycodone that I didn’t seem to be able to get rid of.

Check out my piece in
@thedailybeast.bsky.social on the importance of safe disposal for opioids.

I Tried to Get Rid of My Leftover Opioids. It Wasn’t Easy.
We need more and better methods of disposing of dangerously addictive drugs before they wind up in the wrong hands and causing more pain.
