Jimmy did an AMA and this should be in the article about "Diplomacy".

Inherited my dad’s flannel which is useful in the Pacific Northwest. Still can’t make me wear shoes, though.

I gave the eulogy. I told the story about how he got his nickname. My grandfather - a pro ball player before WWII - had placed a baseball in his crib and a friend chuckled at it. Granddad said, "you laugh now, but one day he'll rock 'em out of the park" - and he was "Rocky" ever after.

Dad was a traveler. Both he and I kept a running tally of the US states we had visited. He was missing New Mexico, Alaska, and Oregon. I have a small pot of his ashes and I intend to take them to those remaining states. Living in Oregon gives me one of the three already!

He collected silver dollars and had organized them by year and mint. He had a LOT of them. Everyone in the family took one from the collection; mine is from 1879 San Francisco.

My father had a lot of rings. Many of them were Masonic or Shriners in nature. None of them can fit my hands; I outgrew them before he died, even.

Among his effects were his grandfather's lieutenant and chief badges (he was chief of police in Huntington, WV) and his father's treasury department badge.

After my father's death, my siblings and I each claimed sets of mementos. My brother took The Baseball, which is the oldest artifact. I wanted his first hole-in-one ball - which mispels his nickname (he had seven). I also took his desk set and the contents, which where fascinating.

My father was a veteran. We knew he was getting a flag ceremony. We did not expect - or ask for - the honor guard and gun salute that was sent as well. As the eldest, they gave the flag to me.

My father died on the first of August. He was diagnosed with metastatic choledochocarcinoma of the bile duct (think pancreatic cancer) in May. I flew home to take care of him for most of June, finished a move to Oregon at the beginning of July, and returned when he entered hospice two weeks later.

Also this: a framed set of Jack Nicklaus five pound notes from Scotland. I remember watching him play in the US Open with my dad when I was a child. We watched golf, Star Trek, and James Bond movies together.

In the same package he also sent a vintage New York Giants jersey set, complete with socks.

This morning I hung my father’s first hole-in-one trophy on my office wall. I’ve always loved this one, especially since his name is misspelled. (Don’t worry; he has seven others)
