Well the thing is that inside the grifting fascist racist conman persona, Trump is just a very broken human being that hates himself. Flattery and bribes work to a point, but what he really wants, or at least his first instinct, is to please. It would be sad if he wasn't such a monster.

Not even for success, just to avoid paying for their failures. They created a "talking dog". Cute parlor trick, great achievement for dogs and dogs scientists, but it is simply impossible for the dog to say something worthy of the trillion dollars investors put into it.

While I totally agree it should not be this way, there are many factor that push some industries to this and are hard problems to crack. For example, rare earth refining poisons the land, so most countries and people would prefer it to be done by someone else, somewhere else.
