Ashanti's trunk is shorter – the fingers cut off by a poacher's snare. She's adapted brilliantly, kneeling to scoop cubes whilst friends position protectively beside her. Rescued during the 2022 drought, her name means strength, courage, and resilience – she embodies all three: www.swt.bio/ashanti

15 years ago, a tiny orphaned elephant was rescued from a well. Predators had bitten her trunk and she was hungry, weak, and frightened. That was how Naipoki’s story began. Now - just this week - she adds a new chapter to her story: motherhood! Remind yourself of how far she’s come: swt.bio/naipoki

It’s a girl for Naserian! As has become tradition among our ex-orphans, the proud mum returned ‘home’ this weekend to introduce her brand new daughter to the people who raised her. The special name we have chosen for Naserian's little girl: Nyika, which means bush/wilderness in Swahili.

It’s heating up here in Tsavo, which means Mr Bean has entered a phase of rest and relaxation. He finds an inviting patch of shade, squeezes himself into position, and lazes the day away. Keeper Peter is kind enough to hand-deliver Bean’s bowl of milk, so as to not interrupt his zen.

Busara means ‘wise’ in Swahili — a fitting name for a little elephant who has overcome so much. She was an orphan of Tsavo’s 2022 drought and came to us skeletal, skittish, and shy. To see her today — plump and supremely spoiled — is a testament to what three years of love and care can do!
