If you ever get out to Vancouver I am curious what you'd think of the Skytrain. It's only a subway in the downtown core, otherwise, elevated on the entire route (hence the name) to avoid road crossing conflicts.

All good - haven't watched the show in like 15 years, so it did not occur to me it was a reference. Came off odd

Referring to things by their common names in public forums is how you communicate with a broad audience, rather than vague post at people you've never talked to before

Quite possibly the greatest coup the right has ever pulled was convincing the left that the instruments of power were inherently corrupt and misaligned with producing social good

if the point of engaging in the dark game is to ensure integrity, then the people involved in it need to have morals, rather than a compulsive game obsession

2025 really is the year of "DeGaulle had a point"

Genuine, unpleasant questions need to be being asked in Canada, UK, Aus, and NZ about what, how, and why we were sharing with all of this slipping under somehow.

why have literally none of these people managed to internalise the very simple point in Popper's Paradox of Tolerance

Passable enough, and cheap.

If you've heard of Japan's canned coffees, most of those brands also do hot chocolate. The best one that's widely available is probably Georgia's? (which is a Coke product)

look, I'm *trying* bsky.app/profile/jord...
It is “they turned the hot section of the building vending machines back from cold to hot” day in Fukuoka so lunch is being followed by hot chocolate out of a can.

"Onenationists", or, for short, "Onanists"

Ultraliberalism, you say?

I moved down right at the end of November last year, and it was up then, just haven't had a chance to head down yet.
The other spot is down at Kihinkan Hall, on the canals. The square there gets a really nice little market.
November 13, 2025 at 4:03 AM
No idea, haven't been down yet. Think it should be soon?

Any time a colleague asks me “Jordan-san, do you understand what’s going on with <US headline>?” I assume I am not getting back on task for an hour

smh, discriminating against the waggle impaired

But of that era there’s probably still broader (across the population) knowledge of like, BTO or Neil Young? Way more than Rush

With Young the question would be “which album”, really

Alanis, in the 90s, is obvious with Jagged Little Pill
November 13, 2025 at 3:22 AM
That’s true, but the weird part for Rush is (2112 aside) they were a weirdly singles-oriented prog band, in terms of what drove their growth and relevancy. Lots of great stuff but less “album oriented”?

There’s probably a case for Signals or Moving Pictures?
November 13, 2025 at 3:21 AM
Rush is great! But I wouldn’t say any of their albums are all-time front to back accomplishments
