Ending wise, I feel like this is a narrative structure that we’ve seen from Morrison before.
We fast forward to an apocalyptic future with heroes vaguely similar to the time period we’ve been reading, and the only hope is 1 small change of circumstance in the past.

Another very abundantly clear point is that these people are awful teachers. The children join cults, get radicalised, turn to genocide and take pretty hardcore drugs all in a school day.
