Outdoorsman, conservationist, wild game cook.
For those unfamiliar, the US has a “cut to the front of the line” program already for foreign investors called “EB-5.” This allows a wealthy foreign investor to get a visa to live in the US if they invest just over $1m here. This is for a visa, not for citizenship.

I spent three summers w/ the US Forest Service on a wildland fire crew in Paisley, Oregon, Fremont-Winema NF. Knowing my brothers & sisters in wildland fire are at-risk of not having full crews this summer due to a blanket hiring freeze is maddening and reprehensible.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

Make it hurt, PM Trudeau and Presidente Sheinbaum. Appeasement didn’t work for Chamberlain, and it will not work for you. Only when Trump realizes you will not cave in that he will see he’s not a “strong” man, but a paper tiger. #tariffs

WA State has a $1 billion budget hole in its transportation budget, potentially leaving projects unfinished for years in order to delay costs and close the gap. Sadly, proposals to close the gap include taxing folks that drive furthest. While this makes sense on its face, it has inequitable impacts.

I got frustrated over the weekend after seeing an extremist group posting their white supremacist bullshit to Instagram, & got myself blocked 4 calling them white supremacists. The group? Wildlife for All. Bet u thought it was gonna be Elon or Don Jr (they’re white supremacists too). Let me explain:

A Republican I respect posted recently that Nancy Pelosi ripping up Trump’s speech a few years back was a “disgrace.” What actions in response to Elon’s salute would be a “disgrace” now? Are we to just stand back and stand by while actual fascists take over our democracy?

A better name for the Gulf would have been the Gulf of I Have the Concepts of a Plan.

If Alaska’s Senate delegation wishes to change the name back to Denali - and make it permanent - they will pass a bill to prevent future presidents from changing it on a whim. Sadly, I don’t believe Murkowski/Sullivan actually care, and thus will not seek to overturn the executive order. #denali

Denali is and will always be Denali. The new administration can change its official designation, but to true patriots it will always carry the Athabascan name for this sacred place. #denali

Being an outdoorsman takes me to some truly beautiful places. #hunting #outdoors

I spent 3 summers firefighting with the US Forest Service (best job I ever had), and several members of my crew were part of the LGBTQ community. Republicans calling these folks “DEI hires” know nothing of tangible service, nor the risks these folks took to protect communities. #LAfires

2024 was a great year afield and abroad: Mexico & Italy; the Oregon Coast x2; Washington’s public lands around the coast, Olympics, Hood Canal, and Blue Mountains. So very fortunate to enjoy the outdoors and to feed family and friends with wild game. These places are under threat -

I’ve been carrying on a thoughtful conversation on IG with some vegans about moral superiority of food consumption choices.

The short of it: no food consumption choice - vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, and I between - is morally superior because all have some impact on wildlife & environment.

Sell public lands for private benefit? Fuck that. #keepitpublic

Enjoying some of Oregon’s public lands this morning. Protected for waterfowl, fish, and other wildlife species, using funding generated through hunting license sales as well as federal duck stamp sales, national refuges are a critical part of our protected public lands network. #keepitpublic

For folks who follow me here, you may see a dead critter once in a while. It’s an important aspect of telling the story of wild game harvests, wild foods, and ethical harvests. What you won’t see: severed parts, focus on head/horns/antlers, or disrespect of an animal’s carcass.

Spent the past couple days in Central Washington enjoying the outdoors with conservation leaders in Washington State. Protecting habitats and open spaces for all wildlife is important to me whether I hunt a particular species benefitted by that conservation, but I really like goose pastrami.

Aside from my outdoor pursuits, I often write about conservation and wildlife ethics. My late friend Matt Driscoll had given me opportunities to publish articles with the @thenewstribune.bsky.social, and this was one of my favorites: www.thenewstribune.com/opinion/arti...

If you don’t follow me elsewhere, here’s what I like to talk about: conservation, the environment, hunting/fishing/wild foods, cooking, environmental ethics, and public lands. Looking forward to dialogue that moves the needle on these and other important topics!
