I grew up in a labor home; both parents were union members. It was our ticket into the middle class.

Going to work for working families changed my view of the practice. It changed me for the better.

I’m so grateful for this experience, and I’m so excited to take this next step.

And our son? He’s 19 mo and thriving. He loves playing outside, toy cars, books, and most of all, his dogs.

We have fundraised HARD over 4 weeks, and we are less than $700 from reaching our goal of raising $5,000 before 5/31. We hope you’ll help us reach that goal:

MARCH FOR BABIES
I joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk. Our family became intimately familiar with March of Dimes through their NICU family suppo...

So, this weekend, we are marching to honor our son and thank this amazing organization for what it did for us. And we are marching so that we can find more ways to help NICU babies and families thrive.

✅ Took folic acid/prenatal vitamins
✅ Got the polio vaccine
✅ Had a newborn screening (the heel prick test for serious but treatable conditions)
✅ Received Surfactant Therapy (helps premature babies breathe more easily)

Then @marchofdimes.org benefitted you through its research and funding.

@marchofdimes.org gave me support I didn’t know I needed. I am forever grateful.

That started the longest 11 days of our lives. Each day, we loved and supported and encouraged our baby to grow strong. Each day we advocated for him with his care team. And each day, @marchofdimes.org supported us. They brought us books to read our child, costumes for a Halloween party, etc.

By the time I got to the NICU, bb was already intubated. I don’t remember much of that first trip. I remember holding his hands through the porthole. But I don’t really recall him intubated. Part of me thinks it was from being exhausted. Part of me thinks it’s my brain protecting me.

Drew was sending me texts. Baby wasn’t breathing well. They were trying to suction out fluid, but he was likely being intubated to receive a breathing treatment called serfactant.

My 8 pound, 3 ounce baby was quickly snatched from me and whisked to the NICU. @drewkc.bsky.social followed closely behind, as I was literally still being stitched up.
