This is very true. I think its a good idea for any writer looking to hire an editor to meet with a few to get a feel for the vibes and the relationship before committing to a long term project or a full dev edit for a $$$.

I bought a copy of Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children when I was a college student in 2006. It's now gonna be 2026, I still have never read it. I have it sitting on my bookshelf to this day.

I also thought about writing a really short fiction, maybe like 1-2 scenes, under 5k words total, Helena finding some mythical artifact related to the Maccabi resistance against the Greeks.

Oh for sure, I don't doubt anything you said, I just never really thought of exclamation points as associated with positive energy, thats probably a "me" thing... and yes, I have thankfully avoided working in big corporate jobs

Interesting, I often associate it with negatives such as anger, admonishing someone, or aggressive criticism... I don't immediately see the warmth aspect of the exclamation point... good article...

That’s huge! I try to remind myself at least every few weeks in terms of writing and editing “you are your are worst critic” or “worst enemy”
I’m so glad whenever any author that is struggling manages to push through, because I know there’s a voice in there and great story waiting to be told.
