No there are lots of proportional systems that still have local members. They include mixed member proportional and multi-member districts where a region elects multiple members in proportion to the first choices of the voters in the region. Go to www.fairvote.ca/introprsyste... for more info.

Ranked ballot is effectively first past the post on steroids. That's effectively what just happened... most people whose values or priorities were more fully represented by the NDP or Greens, voted for their second choice out of fear of a Poilievre government.
