In 2020, we lost him to his struggles with mental health issues and substance use. We began The Connor Sheehan Fund to provide support for programs that help teens, their families, and schools to identify mental health issues and substance use disorders among young people, and to promote awareness, communication and education about youth mental health in our communities. While Mov. 1 and 4 get all the love in Mahler’s 9th (perhaps rightly so), I think Mov. 2 is an incredible example of Mahler’s ability to endlessly reshape and recombine motivic material.

Randomly heard some Mahler a few days ago so now inevitably the fires have been lit and I have to listen to the symphonies. Again. For maybe the 1000th time.

This music is at the core of everything I write. If I had a bone marrow test, it would read: “100% Mahler”

I have a new work just released. Score and parts are distributed through Universal Edition. The preface of the score contains a hymn sheet of Broadhurst's poems with his commentary. The video score here has audio produced from NotePerformer4 software.

Thinking about writing/rewriting program notes for the pieces I have on Soundcloud and I’ve remembered something:

Writing program notes for your own pieces is hard…
