Kia ora koutou! (be well, everyone)

I'm loving all the new follows. And feeling the pressure not to disappoint.😜

I am a New Testament teacher/researcher in Aotearoa New Zealand. I have also served in churches in the UK (where I'm from) and NZ. 1/4

So, I think the (professional) copy editor has introduced a number of grammatical errors into my manuscript - presumably caused by not understanding the sentence, and possible prompted by an AI grammar checker. 1/

proofs day!
(first article on Luke, hopefully not the last - although unlike @dorhamidbar.bsky.social I don't already have a prequel lined up)

is it me or has LOEB online gone up in price dramatically? I am no longer allowed to buy it in USD, but have to buy in pounds or Euro.

AI is not powerful enough to dominate. Right now a lot of its biggest investors are panicking because it doesn't work as promised. So they're trying to offload their debt onto consumers by making AI seem inevitable. It's a Ponzi scheme, and once they get their money back the marketing will stop.

book recommendations wanted please: what are the key important eco-theology / creation care books / resources that a theological library should have in stock?

great thread. obrigado!
What truly new things have we learned about how the prophetic books of the Bible came to be? An interview I just did with @haydentank.bsky.social made me reflect on how I was completely wrong on a key point and what a great recent book tells us about the values behind ancient Hebrew literature. 🧵

I never really researched Nuremberg, so I was unaware until today that the famous “Nuremberg Defense” (“we were just following orders”) was not, in fact, the only defense offered by Nazi criminals at Nuremberg.

need to sample this for a bass synth! also, yay for kākāpō!
A milestone: #kakapo mating calls have been heard on the North Island of NZ for the first time in over a century. At least 2 of the 3 #kakapo males at the fenced sanctuary of Maungatautari have "boomed" this summer. #conservation www.doc.govt.nz/news/media-r... Video: www.scienceagency.co.nz

Far out. 400 Euro for a monograph (even as Ebook) - new level of lunacy reached or is this tariffs?

yep. i don't care how many crimes a person has committed this kind of punishment is a crime against humanity. there should be heavy sanctions from right thinking nations against the USA and El Salvador over this.

Frank Cole Babbitt in 1936 forgot that when translating Plutarch's Greek into English, the English should be easier to read than the Greek!

genius. this needs an update to include the use of AI. possibly on the topic of Vegetative Electron Microscopy. Happy Birthday Tom.
At number seven, Lobachevsky a song about academic plagiarism. And, naturally, Lehrer manages to take a dull topic and turn it into an absolute banger of a tune. /9 www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQHa...

no, you cannot rely on public domain translations from yesteryear where the translator was more concerned with his rhyming scheme than the meaning of the Greek. Monograph citing Athenaeus's Ἄρτεμιν, ἃ γυναικῶν μέγ᾿ ἔχει κράτος but relying on Yonge's 1854 translation. 🤦‍♂️

article i'm reading is full of bizarre typographical errors, but i'm quite taken with the idea that Paul taught Eor daily for two years, that could explain his later depressive state in the Poo books.

ok, i hadn't thought about it like that. hmmm.
1/x I fear some have interpreted this as suggesting that Eisgruber (Princeton’s president) wasn’t being that courageous. That wasn’t at all my intention: I have a very high opinion of him, and the act deserves great praise. What I did mean is a little complicated, though…
Those wondering why Princeton’s president has spoken out while other U.S. university presidents haven’t are missing something obvious:

Princeton doesn’t have a medical school. It relies very minimally on federal science funding.

Your ethical conclusions may vary, but that’s the reality.
