Although (in a no doubt equally obtuse vein!) that varies a lot by time/place/unit or formation. I've seen some British ones that seem to have been written up within hours of the events described...1/2

No. I think it was personally important to Klimov, who'd lived through some of what is depicted as a kid, to have something positive and humane at the end of the horror. I think it works.

Seen this? 2020. Thought pretty good. Brit/Imperial centric but coverage of DAK isn't bad.

Agree, but I think part (most?) of the problem is that for the British, who faced the majority of the Big Cats in Normandy, the M4s 'role' was ill defined. It ended doing things it wasn't designed for.

Right up to the end of the war. Both MG Battalions and Motor Battalions could do this. Vickers MG was mainstay but they'd use anything. Seems to have had a big impact in Holland in late 44.
