First up. A building in the city centre with extensive shrapnel and, I think, bullet damage. The city was heavily bombed in 1942-45 but this looks like the result of the brief ground fighting there.

Rifleman Lennie Day, 21 yrs old, was one of those killed. This is his grave at Hottot-Les-Bagues CWG. Photo from 2012. L/Cpl Wood was severely wounded, almost finished off by multiple shrapnel wounds to the abdomen & legs. He was evacuated to the UK and spent months in hospital.
