I’ve been reflecting on my own tolerance today. If the UK loses the BBC tolerance and fairness in the media landscape will be fractured even further.

It’s not just about shows that I like that are delivered on the platform. It is, despite what people say, one of the most trusted news and broadcast organisations. We won’t realise what we’ve got until we’ve lost it. And then what?

There are certain people who are beside themselves with glee because of the trouble the BBC is in and want nothing more than its complete and utter dissolution. I guess I really just want them to stop.

Please stop it.

One phrase has never left me. “Just stop it”.

Now, I don’t really know why I’ve made such a tenuous connection to this little viral moment in a completely unrelated topic… but I guess it’s the “just stop it” that always got my attention.

This is it,no edit made him look bad we all saw what he did& said. He won't stop until he has eradicated what he did on J6 he's pardoning all the folks who aided & abetted even if he can't(state convictions)the BBC should have issued a firm rebuttal because we know they could if they had the guts

What a sorry world it is we live in.

I’ll leave Ed Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, to sum up the rest of my thoughts.

and declaring that British people should watch.... GB News.

Well, first of all, “No thank you”.

Secondly, it’s clear to me that this is a coordinated hit job on the BBC from right-wing populist public figures in the US and here in the UK. It could not be more transparent, and it makes me sick.

I think there are one or two in the squad who have been with us for a few years need to be moved on. Pope and Burn are fresh in my mind about that one. Woltemade is a good player and dangerous for us when we're firing. But he's not a goalscorer. Right now he's all we've got.

We've had setbacks before, but this is the first time in the last 4 years we've felt devoid of direction. I don't know where a goal or a performance is coming from week on week.

We are going to lose players and we'll have to start all over again. It's very concerning. #nufc

from league position.

A lot of people at the club right now have to have a good look at themselves and what they want to achieve while they're here because it's not working for any of them right now.

Nothing to be done now but look to the next game. Going to be a long 2 weeks #nufc

It all comes together in one of the greatest moments that television has ever seen.

ENDS

And then come the final seconds. Their lives on the line, their worries put aside, they charge out to go about the business of war. And it just works. The slow motion rising from the pit. The audio.. the special effects and the piano rendition of the Blackadder theme.

Blackadder doesn’t put the group down for having false hope. He isn’t mean to Baldrick for having one last cunning plan. Just one line that sums up the madness of the whole situation, before wishing everyone luck.

“… and who would have noticed another madman around here?”

What I really love about this scene is that they all know by now the game's up. They’re not comedic caricatures anymore. They are humans knowing they’re about to go to their certain deaths. They don’t snipe at or belittle each other. They’re opening up about their fears & feelings.
November 9, 2025 at 1:59 PM
“How are you feeling, Darling?”

“Not all that good, Blackadder. Rather hoped I’d get through the whole show. Go back to work for Pratt and Sons. Keep wicket for the Croydon Gentlemen. Marry Doris. Made a note in my diary on my way here. It simply says, ‘bugger’. “

“Well… quite”.

This is how I connect with things like this. Not in the moment of silence when my drifts to whatever it will do when the moment comes. The best thing I can do is stay silent.

No, it’s when popular culture reflects the importance of remembrance and the ultimate futility of War.
