I am: curious, optimistic about where tech is going, and happiest outdoors. Geospatial and aerospace is my jam.
A Bell 212 helicopter taking off this morning from the Springbank airport. Check out the longline firefighting bucket he's carrying underneath as he heads back out to tackle a wildfire.

Timelapse of last night's #NortherLights just outside of Calgary #YYC I never get tired of seeing this show!

Sunset plane spotting tonight at YYC

A gorgeous sunrise this morning with deep oranges and vivid blues. It's going to be a good day!

Welcome home! After seven weeks of operations for multiple clients our IO Aerospace modified Learjet is back home.

It's hard to convey just how much area we can cover with the Learjet in a single mission! I often say things like "we can image over 10,000 square kilometers in a single flight" but people have a hard time picturing that, it's a very large number with little context.

When you collect as much area as we do, as quickly as we do, you end up with a lot of image of grand landscapes and sweeping terrain. My favourites though are ones like this, where the more you zoom in the more you can see.

As we approach the summer solstice this week we'll be hitting peak solar production for the year. This building we flew over on a recent mission really knows how to make the most of the sunshine!

An oxbow forms when a meandering river erodes through it's own neck and closes off the loop portion. These oxbow lakes dry up over time leaving behind interesting features on the ground. Usually I show closeups from our high-altitude camera system, but images like this give a peek back in time.

It's Friday afternoon and the sun is shining. I think I'll follow the lead of these kids and go out to recess! This image is from one of our recent data acquisition flights, and even though it looks like a drone image we were at 30,000 ft with the Learjet!

Happy Friday everyone!

Often we have grand mountain vistas and wide open plains, and sometimes we have scenes like this showing the stunning detail of the built world around us. Look closely at this facility you can spot a train loading products, a red dozer in the yellow sawdust pile, and a truck with two blue trailers.

It might be spring in Calgary, but there is still plenty of ice on the mighty Athabasca River. This image from our recent IO Aerospace flight over the region shows significant ice still present on the river. I wonder how long until breakup happens?

It's Monday and the skies are clear so we're up flying again!

This red winged blackbird was singing his little heart out this morning and making a big fuss. I love it when the blackbirds come back in the spring time, they're such a staple in the forests and wetlands of Alberta.

Are you lookin' at me? This gorgeous hawk was out hunting this morning and keeping a close eye on everything around them.

There is a lot to look at in this image. From the yellow dump truck to the green tractor, the silver storage bins, and the white covered bales it's amazing what you find. This is the sort of imagery @io-aerospace.bsky.social is delivering over wide areas with rapid tasking across Canada and the USA.

Classic Calgary, it was a Conservative blowout here.

The last provincial election came down to a 700 vote difference (on 22,000+ votes), so I suspect the area is changing.

On this Election Day it's interesting to look at the statistical forecast by 338 Canada for my riding in Calgary. I'm curious to see if the change in voter sentiment is long term, or just a result of our southern neighbours. 338canada.com/48006e.htm

Up up and away! It's a great day for flying.

Today on #earthday we reflect on the vast and stunning beauty of our world, as well as the need to protect it. We're fortunate to see the world from a different view, I wish more people could see what we see!

Check out the detail in this image. From 30,000' we can see the supports and spray heads on this pivot! I get to look at this stuff everyday, and somehow I'm always blown away by the detail and clarity of our imagery.

I saw this today further down the feed and it lines up well.

Here's a fresh image from our last flight. Spring is coming, but not quite here! The covers are still on the sand traps at this southern Alberta golf course and the pickleball court is empty.

We're up and flying today testing out a new sensor system. I love watching this jet take off, it has such incredible speed and power.
