Huge thanks to Chris Percival for her caring of the Manxie, and taking it to be released, plus the Manx Shearwater Rescue Group for their advice. Also credit to Caron Pattern and her dog Barney who found the bird in their garden.

A Manx Shearwater, which was found under a hedge in a Haddenham garden last Tuesday, was successfully released yesterday at Hunstanton. It was launched off the cliffs and flew out to sea. @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

Both still showing well today, they seem to like it there! It's been the best autumn for Curlew Sandpipers for quite a few years

It's been a lot of fun watching Swifts nesting in my boxes for the first time this year. The first pair fledged 2-3 young in July but surprisingly a second pair started late and have just fledged 1-2 young in the last few days. Fingers crossed they are back next year @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social

Found a juvenile Cuckoo feather at the Research Park this weekend. Hopefully part of its moult before it begins the long migration south. The other photo was taken a few weeks back at the same site; juvenile waiting to be fed by Reed Warbler foster parents @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

Dark-eyed Junco in a private garden in Ely on July 9th, which was unfortunately not seen again thereafter. This is the first ever American passerine species recorded in Cambs! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

A Garden Garden Warbler! Only my second record and satisfyingly it was feeding in trees which I planted a few years ago @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

The chimney pair may have been a bit of a disaster but the car garage roof pair have got 2 medium sized chicks

The Lesser Black-backed Gull chicks hatched last week and seem to be doing well in the small space of their chimney top nest.

House Sparrow second brood nearly ready to fledge. The male has been very busy bringing in insect food - mostly beakfuls of aphids

After lots of prospecting last year it seems a pair of Swifts are nesting in one of my boxes for the first time. Fingers crossed for some young Swifts in a few weeks time #ukbirding

How many pairs do you have nesting there? It's difficult to tell how many there are close to me as most of the rooftops are out of view. This nest is a bit more sensible than the chimney one! Both should hatch in next few days
June 13, 2025 at 3:24 PM
Lesser Black-backed Gulls have in recent years regularly nested on rooftops of a nearby industrial estate. Incredibly, this year a pair have decided to nest on a house chimney. It will be interesting to see how they get on @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

White-winged Black Tern at Fen Drayton Lakes yesterday (and still there today). What looks to be the same bird was present at Fowlmere NR the previous evening, and perhaps earlier in the day at Pulborough Brooks @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

Female Red-footed Falcon hawking insects over my head in lovely evening light on Sunday; well worth the cycle out to Swaffham Prior Fen for. There have been at 8-9 individuals seen in Cambs so far this spring @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

Breeding plumage Spotted Sandpiper at Grafham Water, showing really well on the dam this morning. It feels like it has been quite a while since the last rare wader in Cambs @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #cambirds #ukbirding

I saw it had been cut when I passed last night and was gutted. Lizard Orchid was looking spectacular with 2 flowers spikes developing. As in previous years I thought an agreement was in place to leave it. Photos from last week.

2 Arctic Terns showing really well at Hobson's Park today and being enjoyed by many local birders. It is amazing how this small body of water seems to attract them @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #cambirds #ukbirding
