The problem with that is they actually start saying things - and it's abundantly clear he can't do that without coming across like a rabbit in the headlights.

Very much was my first hunch - that this is a play to make the rest seem more acceptable cos this is abhorrent. Thing is, if/when you u-turn on the harshest proposals, the right will just say you don't really have the bottle and we should be doing the thing you just u-turned on.

Now whatever your views on the politics of what's happening, legally, that isn't the case with Israel today - even if you argue it should be. Ultimately, EBU members can vote how they like, but they are all businesses and governed by law. What legal basis will stand up when appealed by KAN?

Of course we cannot shy from debate or ideas on tackling illegal entry into the country and the sustainability of asylum in a modern age (when the problem is only going to grow). But this nonsense will not get us to that place. It’ll only up the anti. Learn from Netherlands etc.

Still, the 'Andy' problem is gonna haunt Labour and its next choice of leader unless someone can really redefine the party for this moment. Gonna take guts, that's for sure.

Was the defining challenge the Lib Dems had during their wilderness years - totally reliant on Parliament when they had genuine talent all around the country. They absolutely should have changed their rules to allow a leader from outside. But much easier to do when not forming government.

The Starmer re-elect is dead. The souffle does not rise twice, the prime minister does not come back from that kind of approval rating, or indeed the level of hatred he inspires in the country now.
