I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

oof, I already disliked Rep. Scott Peters but I really dislike his responses on this week's @voiceofsandiego.org podcast. Totally drives home the "corporate Democrat shill" who would flip in a heartbeat if the winds blew strong enough.

God, I love the transition on the 8 into imperial county. It’s a proper transition between coastal Southern California and the rest of the country.

Now that it looks like the immediate fire danger has passed, I can safely say that the most traumatic part of this whole ideal is having to look at twitter to see updates from local governments.

Fire close to me. Looks like it’s being taken care of (poway fire says they’ve stopped forward progress in their 3pm report), but woof that was a scary looking map.

Yes: clearing brush is good for preventing normal fires.
Yes: the best way to clear brush is controlled burns.
No: brush clearance is mostly irrelevant in the face of a high evaporation rate, winds over 45mph, and relatively steep slopes.
Any place with all three are going to have big #wildfires
