The political climate is heavy. It is so heavy to hold it all. I know.

Remember that you personally don't need to be doing it all.

You also need to know that you are not the only person who wants a better future.

But get in the right action to make very small steps that add up over time.

We need to know our limits with the information we take in and engage with.

Who is our tribe? Do you have one? No? Get one. What do you value? What do they value? Does it match? Yes? Then that's your tribe.

Unplug. Rest is resistance. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. We need you around longer than this.

We need to tell our brain that we CANNOT tackle anything and everything all at once.

Stop. We need to focus on the issues that matter most to us and take very small steps.

We need to know and be aware of what's happening. But we need to control our input.

Constant consumption feeds overwhelm.

Let me tell you something. The truth of the matter is that they have us believing that we are carrying MORE than what we are capable of handling.

This is not a sign of defeat or giving up -- this is a reminder to pause, step back, regroup, and refocus.

Insensitive people will keep on being insensitive with their toxic positivity and detached undertones of faux optimism.

Sometimes, it makes you feel like you want to just disengage and stop dealing with it all together.
January 23, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Right now, these oppressive external forces want us to feel hopeless, overwhelmed, stressed out, and exhausted.

The 24/7 news cycle, drama, divisive rhetoric, or the weight of advocating for systemic change.

It feels like pressure, a pressing down on our nervous systems.

Too freaking much.

It would be literally impossible for human beings to replace therapy in their greatest attempts to do so.
January 22, 2025 at 3:01 AM
Human therapy requires creativity, intuition, resonance, and presence, which are qualities that AI can mimic but can not replicate.

AI is a great supplement and therapy assistant, but it cannot offer empathy, judgment, insight, and adaptability to replace human therapists.
January 22, 2025 at 3:00 AM

AI therapists cannot genuinely relate or contribute to human experiences in the same way that a human therapist. AI does not know how to explore meaning and the complexity of the human condition.
January 22, 2025 at 2:59 AM

An AI therapist can misinterpret a human being, which can elicit an erroneous response, potentially harming vulnerable people. Human therapists are skilled, trained, and equipped to mitigate risk.
January 22, 2025 at 2:59 AM
It is not possible for AI to build rapport and trust with a human being. It requires shared vulnerability and interpersonal connection. An AI therapist can not provide that to a human being.
January 22, 2025 at 2:59 AM
AI Therapists lack the adaptability required to handle extremely complex, unique cases. Human therapists are the only human beings who can offer a flexible, creative response to the case.
January 22, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Human therapists offer confidentiality under strict guidelines that an AI therapist will never be able to provide to anyone, due to data breaches.
January 22, 2025 at 2:56 AM
AI Therapists will never understand how nuanced emotion, cultural context, and non-verbal communication like tone and body language fits together. Only human therapists can understand and interpret the subtleties.
January 22, 2025 at 2:56 AM
AI therapists can NEVER replace human therapists. This is a biased post.

AI Therapists cannot replicate the depths of human empathy and connection. People will always need genuine understanding, not a programmed response.

To continue counteracting the negative effects of media:

We can learn how to challenge, confront, question, and critically evaluate media content.

We can engage more with offline activities that ground our lived experiences in reality.

To counteract the effects that media has had on us, there are things that we can control.

We can limit our media exposure, especially with harmful, toxic content.

We can diversify our sources by seeking out varied perspectives to avoid bias.

We can be intentional about the content we consume.

Media has also impacted our neurochemistry in our bodies.

The consumption of media can trigger dopamine releases through the likes, shares, or engaging in toxic, unhealthy narratives.

With time, it has shaped our mood regulation, creating dependencies on media for emotional highs or escapes.
January 18, 2025 at 1:37 PM
We are constantly bombarded with information, which has overloaded and overwhelmed cognitive processes.

The overburdening makes it challenging to evaluate content.

It can create mental fog, confusion, stress, and fatigue, which can prolong the process of altering one's perception of reality.
January 18, 2025 at 1:34 PM
Media can reinforce one's pre-existing beliefs via the algorithm-driven echo chambers.

It skews, alters, and distorts one's perceptions of what is true or normal.

Echo chambers distort reality by presenting a biased view in alignment with the preferences of that particular user.
January 18, 2025 at 1:30 PM
Exposing oneself daily to emotionally charged media, such as distressing news or even uplifting stories, can impact mood.

Doomscrolling is the continuous, repeated exposure to negative news, which leads to anxiety, hopelessness, and despair.

Inspiring content boosts hope and motivation.

Historically, these social media platforms encourage its users to compare one's life against other users.

Comparison leads to low self-esteem, inadequacy, insecurity, and envy.

Seeing others struggle may create empathy and gratitude, while at the same time, induce guilt and obligation.
January 18, 2025 at 1:22 PM
Media presents curated and selective versions of reality.

Pushing exaggerated, sensational, dramatic stories over mundane, common, everyday experiences leads to distorted perceptions.

It creates the belief that the world is much more unsafe, dangerous, and/or glamorous than it actually is.
