Turns out the answer was to pick none of the boxes, and MacGyver would notice a keypad on the wall and leave. A really disappointing non-puzzle to wrap up a weird little escape room game.
At least it did include one paper clip. Though I didn't find it in the envelope until after solving the puzzle.🤷‍♂️
