I've had this photo for years, on there are both my grandfather and grandmother, something has always intrigued me about who the others are and if they related. A colleague and I were laughing about registering a daft domain the other day. Both of us realised we didn’t know the max length of a DNS name.
That escalated quickly:

I saw several mentions that the maximum string length of a DNS name (domain name) is 253 characters. Wikipedia seems to be referring this old blog post:

Microsoft just released a tool that lets you convert Office files to Markdown. Never thought I'd see the day.

Unix newbies: the “man” command is great, but if you don’t know what command to look up, use “apropos” to search the man database to find an appropriate (apropos) command.

Are there any hackspaces, maker groups or educational groups in the Lancashire or Greater Manchester area that want an i3 mega 3D printer? Needs a little TLC to fine tune prints but works ok. Pls share

Been showing my homelab a little love recently. Beefy Thinkstation to replace my agin Gen 8 HP microserver. Moved to #Proxmox too. So far so good. Question is, do I take my disks with or buy newer and bigger and retain microserver as backup?
