Pre-internet, you couldn't get scripts. So, I read a ton of novelisations. Some, like this, were great. Vonda N McIntyre, a great sci fi writer, turned a weak script into a good novel. Re-reading it reminded me that talented & love of the craft always results in great work. Worth reading. #startrek

Really enjoyed this. #kazuoishiguro is fast becoming my favorite author. A lot of directors I've worked with love 'ambiguous' endings. To me that means: two or more meanings, each of them clear. A clear ending that lands, is unexpected, & pays everything is a miracle. One clear ending is hard enough

The images of LA look like the apocalypse strolled into town and set up shop. It's horrific.
I still have a few people I care about living out there. I'm thinking of them, sending a little love their way, and hoping they're safe.

Just finished this by #benokri it's superb & highly recommended. It's inspired me to write more short stories & i'm working on one now. What I love is the directness of his images, which lay one on the other like cuts in a movie, and combine into sequences and stories with incredible power. #writing

Just written a scene intoducing a new character. His first line is:
'I'd love to disappoint you in bed.'
I can't stop laughing. One of my 'rules' is that every character has to be clear & distinct from the first moment you meet them.

I spent awhile performing stand up, enjoyed it & was pretty good. However, I realised a stand up's goal in telling a story is to get a laugh, but mine was to get an emotion. Often that included a laugh, but not always. I got off stage. Knowing what you're not is liberating. #screenwriting
