Reupping for no reason (and absent all hope).
Everyone posting clips from the book and new info about Nuzzi's past should consider that not everything needs to be shared with unsuspecting innocent bystanders just going about their everyday business. Please remember, some things just can't be unseen.

President Zelensky: "We are facing one of the most dangerous periods in Ukrainian history, a choice between losing our dignity and freedom and losing US support. We choose dignity. My answer is my oath of office. I did not betray Ukraine in Feb 2022 and we won’t betray in now."

FB reminded me of a dream I had: I was playing a board game called The Two Laredos. The board was a stylized map of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, with the Rio Grande dividing the towns. All I remember about playing it was, there was a challenge to see how fast you could get your car through customs.

Trump has finally found that toilet powerful enough to flush away bad news.
Trump has found a terrifyingly effective way to eliminate bad news: delete the data.

From hunger and poverty stats to foreign investment numbers, federal agencies are being gutted—making it harder to measure the impact of his policies.

"Why do you keep on fighting, Demetrio?"
Demetrio frowned deeply. Picking up a stone absentmindedly, he threw it to the bottom of the canyon. Then he stared pensively into the abyss, watching the arc of its flight.
"Look at that stone; how it keeps on going . . . "

when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

Thriving in independent media for 25 years, without a) getting hoovered into some larger media org & subsequently axed, b) getting ruined by some hedge fund guy, c) falling afoul of any short-lived "pivot to video" style trends, or d) going broke...

... is a genuinely remarkable achievement! Kudos.

The first monarch butterfly equipped with GPS arrived home. It was released on September 27 in Kansas; it crossed Oklahoma, Texas, and entered the country through Tamaulipas; it passed through San Luis Potosí, the Sierra Gorda of Guanajuato, Querétaro, and the Edomex until reaching Michoacán.

Some monarchs departed from the Rocky Mountains, while others left from the East Coast. Several have already been detected arriving at their overwintering grounds in Mexico since November 9th. Migration routes have been recorded to Florida, the Caribbean, and of course, Michoacán, their winter home.

Species-ism?
A female wolf has been doing something unusual on the Central Coast of British Columbia. She's learned to pull crab traps up from the water, yanking on a rope to bring it to the surface. But is it tool use? Very fun story from @phiejacobs.bsky.social for @science.org
Have wild wolves learned to use tools?
Video captures a lone female pulling crab traps out of the water, but does it count as tool use?
