Shed builder. Retired former teacher. Stocktonian. Cricket obsessive
Two years ago to the day (not the date) that I hit my first international six. At Galle.

I'd retired from playing 6 months earlier due to ill health, recovered, and was making the most of my retirement by playing in Sri Lanka

A trip out to Runswick Bay and Staithes today. We are very lucky to have such beautiful places on our doorstep

A detour round Sutton Bank on the way to Pickering took us past Byland Abbey today, which looked wonderfully gothic

At first I thought it was Graham Stark from the Pink Panther films

Watching From Russia With Love, and realised where I've seen this Stephen Miller before

This is me and my mate Ansh. He's leaving the North East to move to Birmingham so will be one of those non-white faces racists see. He's a doctor, born in India, as is his wife.

They have done more for this country than Jenrick and his ilk will ever do

I've played with Wayne for 10 years. He took his 1st international wicket in this game, and went on to take over 50 more back in England, easily beating his previous best season of 32. He has an "unusual" bowling action, hence the nickname Slo-mo Bumrah

Day 2 of the tournament in Dambulla and I switched sides and played for the other England team against the Barmy Army. I was pleased to finish off a run out and a stumping.

Later on, esteemed cricket journo @georgedobell.bsky.social described the run out as "smooth", which was a definite highlight

Luckily I managed to film it

I love salmon, but cooking it stinks the house out. The answer? Cook it outside

Game 70. A 1sts v 2nds friendly with a barbeque after. Somehow, the ground was playable despite an absolute deluge 24 hours earlier.

The rain confirmed our final 3rd place which considering we were 10th out of 11 in June is pretty good

One of my favourite photos -Winners Are Grinners. Durham had just spanked Notts on one of the coldest games I've been to. A howling gale made it even colder. Poor Luke Fletcher, not a thin man, had to bowl into it.

Game 67. The jewel in the North East crown with a Sunday fixture at Bamburgh Castle. Another awkward wicket meant it was a low-scoring affair, although we ran out as winners with a few overs to spare.

Talking of which, I purchased, Robin's book, Bibliomaniac, today, which mentions said tour.

Game 65. Day game vs Selby. They won the toss and batted first, which made it hard to manufacture a contest. We allowed them to bat the full 40 overs despite being bowled out.

Since I returned to cricket in 2015, I'd never scored 10 boundaries in a season before this year. I have hit around 40 now, including 15 in this quite ridiculous day out for me.

This is my 2nd highest score, only beaten by my 87 scored back in 1986, when I was 20.

Game 51. A convincing win. Two more drops, both stood up to the wicket. One under edge was tough, but the 2nd was simple. Held 2 catches stood back to feel better later.
