Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for the Horsham Constituency working towards a brighter future. Promoted by the Liberal Democrats, 1 Vincent Square, London SW1 2PN.
🏠 Developers overwhelmingly target greenfield sites, and without proper powers or support, local authorities don't have the power to turn them down. That has to change.

🗣️ Today, on #InternationalMen'sDay, I spoke about the urgent need to address our mental health crisis.

As Chair of the APPG for Rural Business, I hear devastating stories of suicide in our farming community. 95% of young farmers say mental health is the biggest hidden danger in the sector.

Great to join Centre for Care in Parliament to discuss digital exclusion and take part in their giant board game on the barriers facing unpaid carers and older residents.

🗣️ Yesterday, I spoke about the urgent need to protect PIP for people with Parkinson's and other fluctuating conditions.

I urge that the forthcoming Timms Review will operate in a genuinely collaborative way to ensure the system better accounts for these conditions.

My recent survey found that local farmers don't report over a third of rural crimes because they feel nothing would happen if they did.

Last week, I asked the government to ensure that the police have access to the training and resources they need to tackle this type of crime.

🗣️ Yesterday, I spoke about the government's approach to planning and the chaos it's causing for the Horsham District.

I've asked the Minister to meet with me to ensure his actions won't just sacrifice our environment, but will actually deliver the affordable housing we need.

🗣️ Yesterday I spoke in Parliament about the need for credible action to meet the UK’s carbon budget.

With transport now the largest source of emissions, the government can’t keep ignoring the environmental impact of airport expansion like #Gatwick.

Fascinating to take part in #EvidenceWeek and discuss how publicly funded research can tackle our major challenges, from improving access to essential services to combating climate change.

It was great to meet with Windracers and SeaCURE to hear how they're innovating in their sectors.

🗣️ Today, we're calling for an emergency 5% VAT cut for hospitality businesses, as well as a cut to energy bills, at the upcoming budget.

We want to put money back into people's pockets and help our local businesses to thrive.

This is welcome news, I hope this is a genuine attempt from the government to look again at the evidence and put things right. In my role on the Work and Pensions Committee, I'll keep pressing for support for WASPI women.
Government to rethink rejection of Waspi compensation
Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden says that the rethink does not mean that payouts will necessarily follow.

📰 In my latest Farmer's Guardian op-ed, I write about improving access to local produce.
EXCLUSIVE - John Milne: 'Farmers are expected to adhere to high animal standards while being condemned to an unfair market structure'
The Horsham MP said the current food system makes it nearly impossible for farmers to sell food profitably outside supermarket contracts, making it incredibly difficult for people to access…

This morning, I joined the #ArmisticeDay commemorations in Horsham to remember all those who gave their lives in service, and those who still live with the cost of war.

A reminder of how vital it is that we stand together in the face of division and continue to push for peace today.

Honoured to plant a tribute in the House of Commons Garden of Remembrance yesterday on behalf of Horsham constituents.

As we approach Remembrance Sunday, we must pause and reflect on the unimaginable courage and sacrifice of so many who have served our country.

Good to catch up with Movember at Lib Dem conference and in Parliament last week.

We're pushing for a mental health strategy that prioritises prevention through early intervention and mental health check-ups at key life points.
