Great grandparent raising a toddler. River watcher, educator, unionist, biographer of Sir Robert Martin.
We've just finished viewing 'Mr Loverman' as a follow up to 'Save Me'. Lennie James is an extraordinary talent and so richly deserves his #Bafta

Our 4yr old autistic lovely has taken to grinning and saying fucker, fucker.
Ignoring hasn't worked so I've started saying whakatūpato (siren) and he's imitating.
Today I asked the English for some other words in the book we read. He's never repeated them but he gave correct translations. Very Cool

In what appears to be trolling, the toddler has returned from kindergarten with his marmite sandwich and apple untouched.

We've just completed viewing 2 series of Mr InBetween; a study of the mundane nature of professional killing. Soldier, hitman, mercy killer.
It's funny, grim and brilliantly written, produced and acted by Aussie Scott Ryan.

I've finally found time to listen to @kirstyjohnston.bsky.social 's Nellie's Baby. Superb.
It cleverly combines the tension of an affecting real-life mystery with shocking NZ social history.
Part of what draws one in is Kirsty's narrative voice which has a naturalness seldom found in voiceover.

The endless food prep aside I had a lovely Xmas day, largely because of the unbridled delight of our almost 4 boy. Presents, games with nannies, water play with auntie and matua - all at full volume.

Today I got a call from an old mate of my brother, asking where he is.
"Dead," says I. "Sent his regards."

We've just watched 'Unbelievable' (available on Netflix.) Superbly acted, unglamorous chronicle of serial rape case, written & directed by feminist film maker Susannah Grant. ('Erin Brockovich').
Thoroughly recommend.
